Public Works - Street Sweeping Program

The City of Easton works very hard at keeping its streets as clean as possible. In addition to using cleaning crews and portable litter vacuums on a daily basis, the Department of Public Works utilizes two mechanical street sweepers that operate between the dates of April 1st and December 1st. The sweeper will also be operated beyond these dates as much as possible depending on weather and road conditions.

While we make every attempt to get the sweeper into all of the neighborhoods of the City, we have some limitations which include narrow streets with many parked vehicles, equipment downtime, and available staffing.

After completion of the scheduled routes, drivers have been instructed to continue operations along as many unscheduled roadways as possible with the goal of attempting to sweep as many streets in the City as possible at least once during the season.

Please call the Department of Public Works at (610) 250-6680 with any questions regarding our sweeping program.

Snow Emergency & Winter Operations Information

When a substantial accumulation of snow (usually greater than 6 inches) or certain other conditions are expected that will pose a hazard to vehicle and pedestrian traffic, a SNOW EMERGENCY may be declared by the City of Easton.

Cars parked along any SNOW EMERGENCY ROUTES must be moved when a SNOW EMERGENCY is declared. Cars which are not moved will be towed by the Easton Police Department.

Following are some suggestions to avoid unnecessary inconvenience during a SNOW EMERGENCY:

  • Keep your radio and/or television tuned to local stations for the latest information.
  • If you plan to be away from your home or business during an anticipated storm, please make arrangements to have your vehicle removed if a snow emergency is declared. The city will make every effort to locate the owner of a vehicle which has not been removed. However, if all attempts fail the car will be towed at the owner’s expense.
  • Do not return your car to the snow emergency route until the snow emergency is lifted.
  • The S. 3rd Street Parking Garage will be opened for free during the snow emergency for residents who live along snow emergency routes. Cars must be removed from the garage within the established timeframe to avoid charges.
  • The City carefully plans its approach to each storm and will make every attempt to minimize the impacts of snow emergencies on both residents and the business community.

City plow clearing Center Square

During winter operations, please keep in mind that city crews plow streets in the following order of priority:

  1. Snow Emergency Routes
  2. Secondary roadways
  3. City-owned alleys
  4. City-owned parking areas

  • Please do not shovel your sidewalk until the city has finished plowing your street – several passes may be made over the course of the storm. It is your responsibility to pile snow between the curb and sidewalk or in another appropriate area off of the street.
  • Removing snow from fire hydrants around your property is very helpful.
  • No resident is permitted to obstruct or “save” any parking space within the City of Easton with items including but not limited to trash cans, furniture, barrels, barricades, etc.
  • Residents may work with their neighbors to remove all vehicles from their block and then contact Public Works for a plow to push the snow back as far as possible to the curb. This is only done after all the streets have been opened wide enough for traffic.

The City of Easton greatly appreciates your cooperation. If you have further questions regarding our winter operations, please contact the Department of Public Works at (610) 250-6680 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
